Sir Tom Jones, from the first series to the later return

Sir Tom Jones was in the original television line-up in 2012, with will.i.am, Jessie J and Danny O'Donoghue. He was the coach whose career reached back furthest, and the blind audition made that useful. A singer could not see the fame. They could only hear whether the chair turned.

He did not sit in every series. The panel was rebuilt, and his absence was one of the changes viewers noticed. When he later returned, fans treated it as a homecoming rather than as a new signing. The chair was the same job. The years in between were the story.

What people repeat is the contrast. A coach with decades of stages, listening to someone who may be singing in public for the first time. The format is built for that contrast. It does not need a biography before the song. The turn, or the decision not to turn, is the biography.

This note does not rank him against the other coaches. Fans already do that in the forum, and they disagree. The fact the directory can state is simpler. He was there at the start, and he was there again.
