Rita Ora in the later years

By the time Rita Ora took a chair, The Voice UK was a later show. It had begun on television in 2012. The move did not retire the blind audition. The chairs still turned. A new coach still had to sell a team when more than one button lit.

She arrived with her own singles and her own audience. That is the pattern of this programme. The coaches are not discovered by the show. The contestants might be. The coaches are hired because the public already knows their voices, and then the public watches them judge other voices without looking.

Fans split, as they always do, over whether a pop coach is harder or easier on a singer who wants a pop career. The split is the discussion. It is not a verdict this site can stamp as official.

Placing her in the later years keeps the timeline honest. Jessie J belongs to the opening. Rita Ora belongs to the later panel. Both are acts who came through the show by sitting in the chair rather than by winning it.
