Meghan Trainor took a chair in the later run of the show. By then the British public had heard her singles, so the coach was not a stranger and the contestant still was, at least until the chair turned. That imbalance is the format working as designed.

Songwriters on the panel are interesting to fans because the battle and knockout rounds are about arrangement as well as about the voice. A coach who writes can talk about the song, not only about the note. Viewers either want that or they want the opposite, a coach who only reacts. Both tastes show up in the forum.
