Kylie Minogue takes a chair

Kylie Minogue joined the coaching panel after the show had already had its first series. She arrived as one of the most recognisable pop singers in Britain, which is the same reason any famous coach is hired: the audience knows the person who might turn.

The blind audition does not get kinder because the coach is famous. The singer still has a short time, the chair still faces away, and a no-turn is still a no. Fans remember particular turns and particular steals from her series the way they remember them from every other year.

Her chair is one stop on the way from the 2012 panel to the later years. The format did not change to fit a new coach. The coach fitted the format. That is why the pictures still match: red chair, dark stage, a voice before a face.
